Cervical Cancer
Cervical Cancer – HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) is the main cause (75%) of cervical cancer. This disease is the second leading cause of death in women aged under 35. HPV is a virus infection, which usually causes no symptoms. There is now a vaccine which is 99% effective against HPV. It is called Gardasil, and besides being effective against the particular strains of HPV that cause cervical cancer, it can also protect against genital warts.
Once girls become sexually active, they may be exposed to HPV, so ideally the vaccine should be given before they become sexually active. It can be given to girls from the age of 9 years, and requires a course of three vaccinations over a period of four months.
The vaccine is available at The Globe Travel Health Centre, each dose costs £130.00. Please contact us for further information, or to book an appointment.
