Acute encephalitis in India

There has been an increase in cases of acute encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) in some states in India, and some of these cases have been diagnosed as Japanese encephalitis. The cases have been in Assam, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. JE (Japanese encephalitis) is transmitted by Culexmpsquitos, most active between dusk and dawn, so travellers should ‘cover up’ and use an effective insect repellent on exposed areas.
